Collera, Encepto, Matienzo dominate the Philippine Association for Teachers and Educators Region IV- CALABARZON 11th Annual Quiz Bee
Bridgetines shine throughout CALABARZON!
Proving their excellence, Jean Valerie Collera, Sharlaine Jaide Encepto, both BSEd4, and Jannelle Matienzo, BEEd4, dominated the PAFTE Quiz Bee 2018 held at Sta. Rosa City Multi- Purpose Complex, Laguna, Sept. 27.
With the theme “CALABARZON Pre- Service Teachers as Shapers of the 21st Century Learners”, 82 schools from all over the region participated the celebration. 17 schools were from the province of Cavite, 24 from Laguna, 19 from Batangas, and 11 schools from Rizal and Quezon province.
Out of 72 competing schools in the Education Quiz Bee, St. Bridget College bagged first place while Laguna State Polytechnic University- San Pablo ranked second place and Leon Guinto Memorial College- Quezon got third place.
The winners of Quiz Bee received trophy, cash prize and certificates of recognition.
Prior to the quiz bee, the celebration started with the seminar about the trends and updates in education.
In her talk, Jenny V. Jocson, Senior Program Manager of Philippine National Research Center for Teacher Quality (RCTQ) at Philippine Normal University, emphasized the importance of Paradigm Shift in education.
“If you think being a teacher is easy, you are gravely mistaken. We keep on forgetting what have changed. Our system of education has changed so as a teacher, you must also change your approaches and strategies. That’s what we call the Paradigm Shift,” she said.
Jocson also discussed the Philippine Professional Standards for Teachers (PPST) and stressed that it will be used to evaluate new teachers, so they must attain the competencies required by it. She also emphasized that being a teacher is not all about knowledge but also skills.
