The St. Bridget College Performing Arts Office (PAO), composed of the Repertory Brigid (RB) and the Institutional Culture and Arts Program (ICAP), presented the theater play “Bagtas: Isang Dula Patungkol sa Daan, Pinagdadaanan, at Misyon” at the SBC Manuela Q. Pastor Auditorium on September 7.
The play featured four powerful performances by actors from the Performing Arts Office, including Theodore Dinglasan as Lolo Liway, Kirsten Agregado as Mimi, Nodjzer Cafe as Mario, Edrielle Cueto as Kiko, Gabby Maligaya as Guada, Gale Tolentino as Narda, and EJ Perez as Ramon.
“Bagtas” follows the story of Lolo Liway (Theodore Dinglasan), who symbolized Jesus Christ and appeared as an old man among ordinary people, giving them a cross that represented their mission in life.
Directed by Mr. Dhale Tubig, the play drew inspiration from real-life narratives, as Tubig explained, “Ang mga naratibo at ilang mga linya ay hango sa totoong buhay” (The stories and some of the lines are based on real life).
Theodore Dinglasan, a Senior High School student who portrayed Lolo Liway, shared how deeply the role resonated with him: “I personally saw how much impact Lolo Liway could have for the children, the lost, and those confused if his character is given justice.” Dinglasan also expressed how the role inspired him spiritually, bringing him closer to God.
The play’s live orchestra, led by Mr. Emmanuel James Musico, the ICAP Musical Director, added another layer of emotion and depth to the production with theoriginal compositions performed by the orchestra amplifying the scenes and helping to convey the mood and emotions.
“My goal has always been to perform live in a play or musical with an orchestra. We rehearse so much that the music becomes second nature, allowing us to express emotions and set the mood for each scene,” Musico shared.
The play left a significant impact on the students. Gian Carlo Cantos, a student from STEM 1 – Mother Constance Phelan, remarked that Bagtas made him realize that although life comes with many challenges, God is always there to support and guide.
Before the curtains closed, recognition was given to all those who worked tirelessly to make the production possible, including the cast, musicians, technical team, and other contributors.
