St. Bridget College, Batangas, in its continuing mission to ensure the safety and welfare of its community, joined hands with the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) for a Disaster Preparedness Training for Partners in Mission held on October 16, 2025 at the Sr. Clare Morrisey Hall, St. Bridget College, Batangas City.

The training aimed to build awareness and readiness among faculty and staff, equipping them with knowledge and confidence to respond effectively during emergencies.

The program opened with an inspiring message from Sr. Ma. AƱanita A. Borbon, RGS, PhD, College President, who shared her personal experience during an earthquake. She emphasized the significance of institutional readiness, not only by securing essential materials, but also by conducting regular orientation and training.

The first part of the morning session was led by Mr. Jonathan Amido, RPm, LDRRM Assistant, who discussed the Philippine Disaster Risk Context. He highlighted the country’s vulnerability to natural hazards, explaining how its location along the Pacific Typhoon Belt exposes communities to earthquakes, floods, and storms. His discussion underscored that disaster risk in the Philippines is not just statistic, it is a lived reality that requires responsibility and constant preparation.

Following this, Mr. Rodrigo De la Roca, Batangas City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office head, focused on earthquake preparedness, highlighting the key role of disaster education programs in schools. He shared that providing both educators and students with practical knowledge fosters resilience and resourcefulness. He also walked participants through essential safety protocols—where to go, what to do, and how to stay calm when disaster strikes.

Adding depth to the discussion, Mr. Rose Mark Kinnard Aranas Cepillo, RN, EMT, EMR, Training Section Chief, shared his professional insights on what to do before, during, and after an earthquake. He also encouraged the institution to create a detailed contingency plan, making sure that everyone knows their roles and designated areas during emergencies. Afterwards, certificates of appreciation were presented to Mr. Rose Mark Kinnard Aranas Cepillo and Mr. Jonathan Amido for their valuable contributions to the training session.

The afternoon session resumed with Mr. John Philip A. Serrano, LDRRM Officer IV, and Mr. Alain Curt F. Mazo, LDRRM Assistant, who discussed the Emergency Operations Center and its functions during crises. They highlighted the importance of clearly defined functions and the need for designated marshals in every classroom to guide and assist during evacuations.

To further strengthen the readiness of St. Bridget College, Dr. Imelda B. Vergara and Mr. John Jeffry Mendoza introduced the members of the Institutional Emergency Evacuation Committee, detailing the roles and responsibilities of each team. Mr. Ryan Gamboa, Vice Chairperson of the Committee, also shared the proposed Emergency Evacuation Plan, with valuable insights and recommendations from Mr. Serrano. The open discussion allowed participants to share opinions and suggestions, ensuring that the plan was both comprehensive and realistic.

Before the session adjourned, certificates of appreciation were given to Mr. John Philip A. Serrano and Mr. Alain Curt F. Mazo for sharing their time and expertise. The session ended with participants gaining a stronger understanding of the need to maintain safety and responsiveness.

Mrs. Julieta Macalalad, Campus Services and Student Affairs Officer, coordinated with the CDRRMO and the institutional emergency evacuation committees with regard to the conduct of the said event.
