Seniors attend seminar on Labor Standards and Anti-illegal Recruitment

Future-ready!

In a bid to shape well-informed and empowered graduates, fourth-year students attended a transformative Labor Education and Anti-Illegal Recruitment Seminar focusing on arming the students with knowledge on the complexities of employment held at Mary Dominica Hall, SME Bldg., St. Bridget College, Batangas City, September 25.

Dr. Amor L. Borbon, College Dean, opened the seminar with an inspiring message, emphasizing the importance of readiness for real-world challenges connecting it with the K-to-12 tagline, “Batang Handa sa Trabaho, Batang Handa sa Mundo.”

“To start your professional journey, we are preparing you to be one already,” she added, setting the tone for the event.

With the assistance and support of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Provincial Office and Public Employment Service Office (PESO) Batangas City, students were empowered with crucial knowledge about labor standards and protection against illegal recruitment, preparing them for the workforce.

Ms. April Rose N. Magpantay, Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Focal person, took the stage with an insightful presentation on labor standards, detailing essential topics such as work hours, payment structures, and various leave benefits.

She also underscored the significance of understanding one’s rights, especially regarding holiday pay and wage deductions.

Following this, the session shifted to Mr. Noel Silang, Public Employment Service Office Manager, who discussed the serious issue of illegal recruitment. He explained common tricks used by illegal recruiters, such as asking for placement fees without providing official receipts and making false promises about quick job placements.

Moreover, he shared important tips to help attendees recognize and avoid these scams, urging them to work only with licensed agencies.

Afterwards, an awarding ceremony took place to honor the resource speakers, recognizing their invaluable contributions to the success of the seminar.

Certificates of appreciation were presented to Ms. April Rose N. Magpantay of the DOLE Provincial Office and Mr. Noel Silang of PESO Batangas City, highlighting their efforts in equipping students with essential labor knowledge and strategies for avoiding illegal recruitment.

SBC Institutional Guidance and Counseling Office spearheaded the event, with Ms. Alyssa Ashley Pasagui as the master of ceremony.
