Anima Servio: Senior High contenders vie for 2024 SHEEP executive seats

As the 2024–2025 academic year began, the election for the new Senior High Executive Envoy Panel (SHEEP) officers took place on August 2. The election aimed to appoint student leaders who will guide the Senior High School (SHS) department.

Mace Joice S. Gutierrez from HUMSS 2 was elected President with 175 votes, surpassing her opponent’s 149. Beatriz Jean M. Marasigan from STEM 2 was elected Vice President with 163 votes, narrowly defeating her competitor by four votes.

Other key positions were filled by Marc Angelo M. Acuzar from STEM 5 as Secretary with 318 votes, Roxie Scarlet S. Aguirre from HUMSS 1 as Treasurer with 299 votes, and Vienessa Joy A. Ardid from STEM 6 as Auditor with 314 votes. The position of Public Information Officer (PIO) was closely contested, with Julia Clarise E. Aguilos from STEM 6 winning by two votes (159-157).

Hannah Riva M. Gilera from STEM 6 was elected Grade 12 Representative with 168 votes, while Kloe Nicole M. Rosales from HUMSS 1 secured the Grade 11 Representative seat with 159 votes.

The campaign period kicked off a week after classes began, allowing candidates three full days for campaigning. They engaged students through room-to-room visits, social media posters, and the official “Miting De Avance” rally, where they presented their platforms and advocacies.

On August 1, the Tsuper Warriors Partylist, led by Gutierrez and including Marasigan, Acuzar, Gilera, and Rosales, addressed key issues inside and outside the school. Independent candidates, including Zoe Alyssa Ysabela G. Eroa for President, Theodore E. Dinglasan for Vice President, and others, displayed passion and dedication during the question-and-answer portion of the campaign.

Breil Ashlee A. Basit and Karylle Angela O. Aguila, Barcodes (ABM Strand) Secretary and President, respectively, hosted the Miting De Avance. Basit shared, “For me, the Miting De Avance is extremely important as it allows candidates to present their platforms. It helps us assess who can best fulfill the duties of a leader. I’m proud to have been part of this event, promoting democracy in our school.”

Aguila added, “This should also be introduced to lower levels so they can understand the process and make informed decisions, preparing them for future political activities.”

A pre-election meeting was led by Mr. Isidro C. Pelingon, Prefect of Discipline and Student Activity Program Coordinator, to guide students on proper campaign and voting conduct. The elections were overseen by a student board of canvassers, led by Keith Isaiah A. Plata, President of Lamb (STEM Strand), and poll watchers.

Gale Angela G. Tolentino, one of the canvassers, shared her experience: “I accepted the role because I wanted to try something new. It opened my eyes to how similar SHEEP elections are to real national elections.”

Poll watcher Hannah Mareese E. Manongsong emphasized the importance of her role: “Having a poll watcher ensures fairness and transparency, giving confidence in the results.”

Within two hours of voting and counting, the new SHEEP officers were officially installed. Their government will operate under the motto “Anima Servio,” meaning “to serve with soul.” St. Bridget College looks forward to cultivating more student leaders and informed voters, ready to fulfill their duties as citizens.
